Sisterhood

The BSBI Sisterhood has been very busy over the past few months. This year’s Tri-sisterhood event was held at BSBI. Dr. Ann Kultz, a native Charlestonian, and nationally recognized nutritional expert and author of “Dr. Ann’s 10-Step Diet”, spoke to a full room of listeners. She was delightful and entertaining as she shared her knowledge with us. A big thank you to Janice Turner and Celia Toubiana who chaired this very successful program

On February 21st we had our annual Chevra Kaddisha Dinner, which was chaired by Ann and Stanley Baker. As always, it was a wonderful and meaningful event. Rabbi Sytner shared with us two recent experiences he had and the emotional yet inspirational outcome. Camilla Rosenberg was in charge of decorating the tables. She made the room look absolutely beautiful. Thank you to Sara Beth Rosen, Barbara Schwartz, Joellen Kirshtein, Sydney Richman and Francis Chase who helped set the tables. Everyone who attended enjoyed the evening and the delicious dinner.

After chairing the Shaloch Manos project for five years, Denise Berry has the process down to a science. From organizing, ordering, inputting, addressing, receiving, baking, stuffing and delivering, Denise makes it all look simple. But don’t let this fool you, Denise has devoted many hours on the Shaloch Manos project. Thank you to Denise and the many sisterhood members who baked, stuffed bags and delivered Shaloch Manos. Thank you Denise, and your whole family for giving so much of your time and patience to this very important sisterhood project. It was an incredible team effort by Denise and so many of our members.

This year our Sisterhood hosted our first and very successful Purim Brunch. Thank you to Camilla Rosenberg and Sara Beth Rosen for setting up the room and making it look so very festive. Also, a big thank you to Marcie Rosenberg and Earl for being in charge of the delicious food served at the brunch and to her helpers Celia Toubiana, Newt Klements, Judah Ellison and Jonathan Ellison.

This years’ “Woman Who Makes a Difference Award” recipient was Lori Hoch Stiefel. Lori has been a member of our sisterhood for only two years and in that short time she has devoted many hours working to bring our sisterhood technologically into the 21st century. Lori has built our web page, updated our membership list, designed and started a sisterhood newsletter. Our meeting notices and our dinner invitations are beautifully designed and inviting. Through Lori’s talents in design and marketing, she has raised our sisterhood’s professional image. On a personal level, Lori has encouraged me to grow and develop as your president and as a leader.

Please note that our April meeting time has changed. We will be having a morning tea at 10:00 am (instead of a night meeting). Please make every effort to come, as we need a quorum to vote on officers for next year. The slate of officers as well as the location of the April meeting will be included in the meeting notice, which you will be receiving soon.

On behalf of the whole sisterhood board, I’d like to wish you all a Sweet Pesach.

~Deborah Ellison, BSBI Sisterhood President
